The Role:

To support our growth, we are looking for an experienced Assembly Integration and Test Engineer with design and assembly integration and test experience to accelerate our technology and mission forward.


As Assembly Integration and Test Engineer, you will be responsible for the AIT of next generation lasercom terminals at subsystem and system level. You will work closely with the lead systems engineer to plan and execute world-first demonstrations of our miniature optical ground station technology. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Design of system and subsystem performance & functional tests.
  • Ownership of Assembly, Integration and Test Plans, Test Specifications, Test Procedures, Test Results and participation in formal reviews.
  • Procurement, development and maintenance of Ground Support Equipment, including supplier management.
  • Support the definition and execution of optical ground station demonstration campaigns including site selection, site surveys, on site assembly, integration, calibration and test.
  • Equipment and facilities definition and allocation.
  • Management of lab health and safety and associated training.
  • Supplier identification, selection, quotation requests, parts and materials procurements, parts reception and inspection, long lead time item (LLI) procurement.


  • Experience defining and executing Assembly, Manufacturing, and Integration Plans.
  • Experience in system and sub-system testing including test design, procedure definitions, procurement, assembly, execution, analysis & reporting.
  • Practical Assembly and Integration experience in some of the following areas:
  • Optical Assemblies
  • Electro-Mechanical Actuation Systems
  • High Speed Digital Electronics
  • Power Electronics
  • Electrical and Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (GSE)
  • Experience in a high assurance industry such as Aerospace, Defense, Medical or Automotive.

Desirable Additional Skills:

  • Experience building and testing electro-optical systems or other complex multi-disciplinary systems.
  • Experience with high-accuracy precision actuation systems such as direct drive motors and reaction wheels.
  • Experience calibrating optical systems or precision pointing systems.
  • Experience working with high-power laser systems.
  • Experience planning and executing field tests for equipment.
  • Proficiency in using a range of relevant lab equipment such as high-speed oscilloscopes and optical profilers.
  • Laser Safety Officer training or experience.
  • Knowledge of safe operation and maintenance of lifting equipment.
  • Familiarity with ESA ECSS standards for testing and verification.
  • Experience managing suppliers for bespoke or long-lead equipment
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, C/C++, ideally in the context of test analysis and automation.
