Axiom provides unprecedented access to the International Space Station today while building and operating its successor – the world’s first international commercial space station – to improve life on Earth and foster possibilities beyond it.  Our mission-driven team is seeking a bold and dynamic Internet of Things (IoT) Engineer reoccupied with big questions: Where do we go from here? What are the limits of innovation and exploration? How do we continue to evolve as a species?

SUMMARY: The IOT (Internet of Things) Engineer will be responsible for developing andmanaging a vast array of IoT and WiFi devices, platforms, software, hardwareand systems through a combination of data, technology and research internallyand externally to Axiom Space Station.

• Researching, creating, testing, and documenting IoT solutions for internal and external communications on the Axiom Space Station

•  Designing, coding and testing features of IoT devices

•  Providing solutions to issues related to the connection of networks and platforms

•  Analyzing user needs and working as service designers

•  Developing software that monitors and executes processes

•  Designing platform solutions and work with IoT applications used to sense, track, compute, alert, and communicate with cloud-based technologies that leverage NFC, UHF, Bluetooth, ZigBee, RFID, Wi-Fi, LoRA, SigFox, Cellular, and other IoT-based technologies

•  Developing software that allows IoT devices to function and connect to other devices

•  Applies technical knowledge to develop concepts and plans for test systems and programs

•  Translating system or product requirements into verification tests and instructions, especially IoT device and data security meets station security standards

  • Interfacing and collaborating with wireless chipset vendors to ensure system requirements, such as RF/baseband performance, system control architecture, HW/SW interface architectures and longer-term technology roadmaps. 
  • Oversee RF and antenna impact to both conducted and radiated testing
  • Defining and executing a strategy of standardization on the station and within the industry COTS ecosystem
  • Owning entire product development lifecycle as a responsible engineer

Education & Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer or Electrical Engineering or similar fields
  • Solid core understanding of wireless communication principals demonstrated through coursework and industry experience
  • Three years or more experience in RF/wireless hardware and network protocols associated with ZigBee, Bluetooth, WiFi, NFC, LoRa/LoRaWAN, or NB-IoT


  • Wireless system engineering experience in physical/MAC layers modeling and design, e.g. physical layer algorithm development, link level systems modeling and MAC protocol dev/simulation system/link level analysis and evaluation
  • Experience in commercial RFID system design and implementation
  • Broad knowledge/view of network stack (including above L2) and end-to-end network architecture and solutions
  • Software programming, familiar with scripting and automation, Python, Perl, C/C++, MATLAB
  • Experience with setting up test racks and test campaigns using custom and commercial test simulators and measurement instruments
  • Understanding of system development and verification testing methods and concepts for wireless devices
  • Proficiency in RF, Demodulation and radio resource management (RRM) implications to device and test equipment architectures, and performance tradeoffs.
  • Knowledge and experience in device certification and regulatory compliance

Essential Functions

Work Environment: Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.


• Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

• Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.

• Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.

 Physical Requirements

• Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
