Members of the High Pressure Systems team develop components and systems to store, transport and regulate oxygen and mixed gas in space vehicles and International Space Station payloads. The position requires interdisciplinary knowledge and expertise, which the team applies to solving system-level challenges. Mechanical, electrical, materials, thermal, manufacturing, and testing skills are all applicable. Potential future areas of focus include developing liquid handling systems, thermal control systems, LED lighting systems, atmospheric composition control, environmental sensors, and biological support systems in spaceflight.
Immediate job responsibilities include requirements development, creating conceptual and detailed designs, analysis, interfacing with other design teams and disciplines, prototyping and testing, communicating with suppliers and procurement, and participating in technical reviews (design, test readiness, manufacturing readiness, etc.) with customers. Additional responsibilities include supporting internal manufacturing, test, and verification teams. Candidates should have excellent communication skills, the ability to function independently in a technically demanding environment, and a willingness to work with a diverse team of engineers, technicians, and support staff.
Must-haves:
Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline and typically 0-2 or more years of relevant experience
Related experience may be considered in lieu of required education
Conceptual knowledge of engineering principles and practices
Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools
Familiarity with working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams
Preferred:
Understanding of engineering foundations such as stress, motion, pressure, heat transfer and fluid mechanics
Understanding of design fundamentals such as material selection, tolerance-stack-up calculations, design for manufacturing, CAD modeling and experimental design
Understanding of Engineering Simulation such as Finite Element structural Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Thermal Analysis
Experience interpreting and applying industry standards toward product design
Experience drafting, dimensioning, and applying tolerances to drawings using GD&T per ASME Y14.5; exposure to model-based definition

Understanding of compressible flows and pressures, and their interactions
Understanding of design and material selection for oxygen compatibility
Basic knowledge of electrical principles, instrumentation, and data acquisition
Co-op, internship or work experience in an engineering or related field

Salary: $62,660.05 - $86,157.57
