What are the limits of innovation and exploration? How do we continue to evolve as a species?

SUMMARY: This position will work on-site at our headquarters in Houston,Texas as part of a diverse and agile team of integrators and aerospacetechnicians in the Assembly, Integration, and Test (AI&T)’s Test Operationsteam that is responsible for the execution of development, qualification, andacceptance tests to demonstrate the capabilities for the space station onground while supporting the design, manufacturing, and build of spacecraft testsystems (e.g. ground support equipment, test support equipment, and testfacilities) required for this purpose. You will be responsible for carrying outall aspects of test engineering activities in accordance with Axiom Spacestandards and practices.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Act as lead test engineer/director with overall responsibility for the test, the crew, and the procedure for component, integrated system, and element-level tests at Axiom Space’s AI&T and Launch Service Provider facilities.

• Write test operations procedures, create test sequences, and manage procedural redlines and updates during test campaigns.

• Lead/support Test Design Reviews, Facilities Readiness Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, and develop test methods to efficiently complete tests.

• Inform the development of Axiom Space’s testing facilities, plan and oversee facility maintenance and/or construction for new test capabilities.

• Assist in preparation of comprehensive test-related documentation (e.g., qualification & acceptance test plans, data evaluation plans, final test reports, etc.).

• Work with Axiom Space’s Test Systems Engineering and Subsystems teams as well as external parties like NASA to properly allocate responsibilities and develop mutually beneficial/efficient/accurate test methods for managing testing resources including the coordination of test crews, support equipment, and vehicle configurations for testing. 

• Coordinate with SME customers in developing test plans, running test facilities/operations, and ensuring the effective and accurate capture of test data.

• Collaborate with fellow AI&T team members on the assembly & integration of flight and non-flight hardware including spacecraft components, subsystems, and spacecraft propulsion systems as pertinent for test.

• Guide technicians to perform work on test facilities, handle test articles and lead test operations.

• Perform test/process hazard and root cause analyses. 

• Support development testing to reduce program risk early in the design process

• Work in a collaborative environment to design, develop, build, test, manage, and maintain MGSE, EGSE, FGSE and tooling for a project.

• Enforce safety policies during test planning and operations and troubleshooting issues that come up during testing

• You will also be responsible for reducing, analyzing, and archiving test data to support verification tasks

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Aerospace, Mechanical or other related engineering discipline

• 2-5 years of current professional experience in the aircraft, spacecraft, automotive, or oil & gas industries with a proven track record in:

o Developing, writing, executing, and updating test procedures

o Using strong technical writing and communication skills

o Working in clean room environments

o Performing test with a strong safety record

o Working successfully in/with multiple disciplines and/or team environment

o Leading test teams as a Test Director or Test Conductor or Test Engineer

• 1+ years of current technical hands-on experience testing or operating in at least one of the following disciplines:

• Fluid/Pressure systems

• Thermal and/or ECLSS systems

• Mechanical and hydraulic systems

• Propulsion Systems

• Avionics or Controls Systems

• Structural Systems or Testing

• Test/Ground Operations

• Hardware Environmental Test

• Experience leading test teams as a Test Conductor or Test Engineer for element-level, integrated system, subsystem, or component test campaigns for a spacecraft/satellite/launch vehicle or complex system project 

• Demonstrated technical expertise in testing of spaceflight hardware through development, qualification, and acceptance test campaigns

• Working knowledge of test facility instrumentation, data acquisition and control systems

• Knowledge of systems engineering practices, fabrication techniques, integration processes, test planning, and quality control

• Experience developing, writing, and updating assembly and test procedures

• Willingness to coach/lead junior engineers on test projects

• Strong technical writing and (horizontal and vertical) communication skills 

• Flexible mindset and strong sense of accountability, integrity, and team focus with extensive multi-project and organizational experience.

• Occasional travel may be required (5-10%)

• Experience with 3D CAD Software (SolidWorks preferred)

• Excellent computer skills (MS Windows & Office)

• Experience working in a SCRUM/AGILE environment highly desired

• Knowledge or experience working with ASME, NASA, AWS, OSHA, FAA and other industry and government standards – Desired

Essential Functions

Work Environment: Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Requirements 

• Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

 Physical Requirements

• Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
