This position reports to the Sr. Manager of Engines Flight Support Engineering inside of the Blue Engines business unit. EFS is responsible for all of Blue Origin’s rocket engines that power our suborbital, orbital and planetary vehicles. This position is responsible for the people, processes, and tools that power Blue Origin's vehicles on the road to space.

As a manager in a matrix organization, you will be responsible for building several small teams of engineers that will be responsible for engine flight operations for our internal and external vehicle customers.  EFS is responsible for integration of our engines into the flight vehicle, verification of the installation, and certification of the installation for flight. Leading up to day-of-launch EFS will report engine status at Mission and Flight Readiness Reviews and support a team of responsible engineers (RE) to write, review, and execute launch procedures. EFS will also provide engineering support in launch/mission control during flight, analyze flight data, lead engine subsystem data reviews, and provide feedback on flight data results to the customer base, designers, and component owners for implementation into future engine upgrades. To support post-flight engine refurbishment activities, EFS will assess hardware health and evaluate engine readiness for flight. You will build and develop several teams and help to establish each team's presence within the Blue organization. As a subject matter expert, you will be a non-advocate domain specialist for programs during reviews and failure investigations.

Responsibilities:

  • Supply people, processes, and tools needed to support engine flight Operations per the needs of the programs.

  • Manage your direct reports’ professional development (e.g., hiring, performance reviews, compensation and promotion management, routine one-on-one development conversations) and coach them on performance

  • Organize and equip the Team and assure that its staff are trained

  • Perform technical work and provide technical leadership of the highest caliber

Qualifications:

  • Minimum B.S. degree in engineering or science (aerospace, mechanical, chemical, nuclear, or physics desired)
  • 2+ years managing technical teams and/or leading functional groups with responsibility for career management of employees
  • 6+ years of experience in an aerospace or nuclear testing environment
  • Proven track record in developing teams
  • Ability to work in a cooperative, fast paced, and dynamic environment
  • Strong technical fundamentals in fluids and thermodynamics
  • Familiarity with data analysis
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired:

  • Experience managing personnel, budgets, or test resources
  • Solid understanding of rocket engines and components
  • Experience with discrepancy reports, failure investigations, and corrective actions
  • Familiarity with rocket engine system operations, verification test process and risk management
