Duties

  • Duties described below are at the full-performance level. Duties assigned at a lower grade level will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
  • Oversee education project management activities to include developing, planning, coordinating, and facilitating specific education activities, projects, and/or programs.
  • Manage educational program/project budgets including short- and long-range planning, evaluation of requirements and priorities, and reporting.
  • Engage in constant project assessment to improve performance. Propose project and process enhancements and improvements.
  • Track project schedule development, project control, risk management practices/issues, and project documentation processing/archiving between multiple teams.
  • Produce, analyze, and report on project/program data to identify demographic trends, efficiencies, etc.
  • Serve as a liaison to external and internal education groups to develop new partnerships and projects for NASA that leads to innovative educational engagement initiatives.
  • Communicate, coordinate and secure current and potential internship mentors for student learning opportunities.
  • Coordinate, plan, track, and lead meetings for colleagues, mentors, other program staff on internship programs; and participate in center and/or agency internship meetings.
  • Generate effective communications, both oral and written, for all information, including presentations and reports.
  • Collaborate with technical and non-technical staff as well as internal and external stakeholders on internship programs and other projects.

Qualifications

You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, and/or directly related education, as shown below, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of this position.

To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level:

  • Assisting in developing and implementing educational products and activities to engage students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education; collaborating across boundaries to build strategic relationships and achieve common goals;
  • Performing analysis of student or educational activity outcomes, determining if objectives were achieved, identifying insights and providing feedback to relevant stakeholders;
  • Executing project management plans to include budget, scope, period of performance and any special requirements and monitoring/evaluating cost and schedule; and,
  • Supporting student transitions along the workforce development pipeline including underrepresented and under served groups.

Education

You must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours in a field related to the work of the position to be filled, of which at least 9 semester hours must have been in education courses
OR
Have a combination of education and experience: at least 24 semester hours in a field related to the work of the position to be filled, of which at least 9 semester hours must have been in education courses, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience must reflect the level and kind described below
OR
Have 4 years of experience that demonstrated a thorough understanding of the principles and practices underlying the work of this series. This experience must have been of such character and diversity to demonstrate that you possess an understanding of the field comparable to that normally acquired through successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university
OR
Have at least 1 full academic year of professional teaching experience. This experience is defined as full and primary responsibility, under general supervision, for instruction of assigned students in an accredited school or institution. This includes responsibility for preparing and presenting lessons and for evaluating students' progress, including a determination of the students' success or failure according to established criteria. Serving in an assistant capacity to a professor without the authority to determine the students' success or failure to meet course requirements does not meet this criterion.
