Starfish Space is an exciting and fast-growing space startup in Seattle, Washington founded by former Blue Origin and NASA engineers. We are giving life to on-orbit services with our Otter Space Tug and satellite servicing technologies. In 2021, we raised a $7M seed round, won a $1.7M award through the Space Forceโ€™s Pitch Day competition, and launched our CEPHALOPOD software into space for on-orbit testing. We are making exciting technological and commercial progress in 2022 and growing our team rapidly.

Position Description

Satellite servicing missions require autonomous, robotic actions in orbit. To fulfill our mission Starfish is developing the Otter space tug and the CEPHALOPOD guidance software to interact with and maximize the operational value of satellites. This position will support the development of flight software and relies on satellite operations knowledge, software development practices, and mathematics. This role will do everything ranging from writing software, to developing autonomous flight algorithms, to building simulation infrastructure to ensure high reliability performance.


  • Must be a US person (citizen or permanent resident)
  • Willing to work from Tukwila, Washington
  • Engineering or sciences education or experience
  • Capable of working a dynamic, fast paced startup environment

Desired Experience

  • B.S. degree or equivalent in Aerospace Engineering or similar field
  • Minimum of 2+ years professional experience preferred
  • Previous experience designing and/or prototyping space systems software
  • Programming experience in Python and/or C/C++
  • Working knowledge of satellite guidance and/or control

ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
