The BlackSky Platform team is building the premier global intelligence platform to deliver timely, relevant, and actionable information to customers.

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will create innovative public and private cloud solutions in Amazon Web Services (AWS). As one of the team, you will be engaged in design and implementation efforts, and you will directly be involved in the successful automated deployment of solutions that meet our customers’ business objectives. Your contribution matters!  Meeting the customer’s objectives is no easy task, but you possess strong hands-on experience and a wide range of enterprise infrastructure, cloud, and high-performance computing technologies to get the job done. You will have a flexible working schedule working from home and our Herndon office if desired.

  • An experienced AWS infrastructure engineer.  You are experienced in CloudFormation or Terraform.  Infrastructure-as-Code is extremely important to you. 
  • Fluent in Linux and at least one scripting language (bash, Python, etc)
  • A driven communicator.  On the Platform team, we communicate through video conferences, Github, JIRA, and Slack.  You are driven to ensure you share (and receive) context from your team and stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of container-based (Docker, Kubernetes, etc) technologies
  • Desire to troubleshoot systems in a complex environment
  • Self-taught learner.  You thrive when learning and discovering techniques to further your game and enjoy sharing your newly sought knowledge with teammates.
  • Have a history of working with machine learning technical teams to deliver scalable and flexible cloud-based systems
  • Experience with map-reduce and machine-learning frameworks such as Hadoop, Spark, etc.
  • Detail Oriented.  You enjoy collaborating with others and respond positively to multiple viewpoints.
  • Geospatial Experience.  You have some hands-on experience with a web-based mapping tool like Google Maps, OpenLayers, Leaflet.js, Mapbox, etc. You have worked on projects developing software to manipulate raster and multispectral imagery.
