About the role
Although Rocket Lab is in the business of launching rockets and satellites, we sure do spend a lot of time on the ground. Like any modern business, everything we do is driven by software – software in the factory, software in the test facilities, software in mission control, software crunching the numbers, software running the business – and a lot of it is developed in-house. It allows us to stay ahead of the curve and is a key differentiator.
  
The Director of Terrestrial Software will ensure these software systems deliver best value to the business by providing vision and technical leadership to the software teams, and continuous coordination between the various stakeholders in production, engineering, flight operations and business administration. You will ensure that best-practice software development processes are followed to provide effective delivery of quality products.
  
Essential skills

• Tertiary Diploma, Certificate or degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or similar.
• Minimum of 15 years experience within a related field
• Experience with leadership of software development staff in an engineering environment
• Product definition and development experience
• Proven experience with “front-line” software development in one or more of the desirable domains
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• The ability to develop and maintain relationships with a broad range of people of varying backgrounds, and to be adept at engaging with those people
• Sound analytical skills – able to see the big picture, make connections and appropriate decisions

• Knowledge and experience with software security principles and standards (e.g. NIST)
