For those who dream of advancing our space in the Universe and on Earth, we’ll take you there.

Serving the world from our Canadian home and our global offices, MDA is an international space mission partner and robotics & space operations, satellite systems and geointelligence pioneer with a 50-year story of firsts on and above the Earth. Today, we're leading the charge towards viable Moon colonies, enhanced Earth observation, communication in a hyper-connected world, and more.

We’re fueled by a pioneering spirit that carries us beyond. And together we enable highly skilled people to continually push boundaries and tackle big challenges requiring solutions that endure and inspire.

Are you ready to launch the next stage of your career in the new space economy? We would love to hear from you!

We’re on the hunt for a Technical Writer on our Geointelligence team at our Richmond office.

Our mission is to turn data into insight. From detecting changes in fragile ecosystems to monitoring northern ice floes and shipping routes, our near-real time data of Earth observation and the environment makes our Geointelligence team a leader in geospatial imagery, ground stations, enterprise geospatial systems and defence programs.

As a Technical Writer, you will write accurate, engaging, user-friendly documentation that adheres to MDA's style guidelines. In this role, you will work with and under general direction of engineers, managers, other team members, interview software developers, and attend engineering meetings to gather, write, and publish technical information and learning materials for our varied audiences (internal and external) such as technical documentation, infographics, and screenshot markups. You have strong writing skills, the ability to synthesize technical content from an SME and create training materials that clearly explain the topic/task to end users based on their needs. You are also responsible for recording, maintaining and communicating knowledge that is critical to the well-being of the business.

Role:

  • Work with engineers, managers and SMEs to write, format, edit, review, proof and maintain documentation that adheres to MDA's style guidelines using Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Visio), Confluence, Adobe RoboHelp. Documentation includes, but is not limited to: user guides, user manuals, admin/installation user manuals, tutorials, cheat sheets, training materials, internal help tech notes.
  • Learn complex concepts, and communicate the information in a way that is simple, straightforward, engaging and understood by users.
  • Write for a variety of audiences, from non-technical end users to programmers, system administrators, and integrators.
  • Identify problem areas or deficiencies and proactively contribute to their improvement.
  • Act as an editor to ensure consistency and single voice across documentation, both across a project, and within the same document.
  • Become a subject matter expert of, and the go-to person for Confluence. You understand the wide range of macros available to perform various tasks, but also the limitations of the tool.
  • Perform simple application administrations tasks to bridge the gap during knowledge transfer periods of in-house built applications.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of technical writing experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a technical field such as computer science or a focus on English, writing, or communications.
  • Strong written and verbal communications and experience working with content in multiple mediums.
  • Experience working with the following tools preferred Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Visio), Adobe suite (Acrobat, RoboHelp), Confluence/JIRA, HTML, CSS, PuTTY, pgAdmin.
  • Experience creating infographics to more clearly communicate workflow processes and abstract topics.
  • Experience working cross-departmentally to communicate the nuts and bolts of a system.
  • Strong experience owning an end-to-end documentation creation process.
  • Ability to write clearly and succinctly for multiple audiences using either formal or more casual tones.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • A positive attitude, willing to jump in and tackle new challenges.
  • Track record of effective collaboration.

We’re a dream team of purpose-driven, collaborative and passionate people, and we are constantly looking for others to join #TeamMDA to ignite new and innovative approaches to problem-solving that push us forward to improve life on and above Earth. If you’re excited to expand our place in space and driven to inspire the next generation, we’ll take you there.
