Maxar is currently seeking a highly-motivated Quality Engineer to join our team in a remote capacity located ideally near the Santa Barbara area supporting the Palo Alto and San Jose, CA Maxar offices. This role requires travel on the west coast, some international travel may also be required. As an ideal candidate, you will have experience with new supplier/product qualification and production implementation for aerospace products. In this role, you will collaborate, innovate, and not be afraid of a challenge. You will be responsible for review of documentation and inspection of subsystems, parts, and individual component levels.
Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) engineer will perform quality assurance functions at the suppliers including audits, inspections, material review and supplier interface.
Will be a member of Maxar review team for Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), Manufacturing Readiness Review (MRR) and Test Readiness Review (TRR).
Review vendor manufacturing flow, assembly and process procedures, test procedures, drawings and associated product documentation for manufacturing and test.
Assess gaps in the Supplier QA requirements Supplier Product Assurance Requirement (SPAR) and Subcontract Mission Assurance Requirements (SMAR).
Review test data as needed or as part of the mandatory inspection point.
Lead and facilitate Material Review Board (MRB) activities as required. Provide coordination of MRB activities with Maxar's engineers.
Perform surveillance and audit of vendor activities to rapidly recognize performance problems, identify their causes and assist in their resolution. Areas of interest include quality and schedule performance.
Provide effective written and verbal communication to Maxar organizations including, Product Assurance, Supply Chain, Program Management Office (PMO), and External Product Engineer.
Provide communication to Maxar customers as necessary.
Perform risk identification, risk management and problem management activities as appropriate and necessary.
Manage supplier based on rating performance metrics.
Perform source inspection of RF products, bus equipment, mechanical products, mechanism, and control sensor electronics.
Plan/Manage/execute small projects.
Minimum Requirements :
Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident
5 years Quality Engineering or engineering-related experience. A Master's degree may count for 2 years of experience.
Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), Industrial Technologies, Statistics or related field. Four years of additional experience may be substituted for a degree.
Flexibility to travel to visit suppliers. Some travel may be on short notice and for multiple days at a time.
Experience should encompass inspection of piece part, mechanical, electronic and communication hardware including associated software.
Ability to work on site at vendors in the Santa Barbara area
Ability to travel to vendors in California
Occasional international travel
Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC)
Six Sigma Greenbelt certification
Knowledge of Advanced Microsoft Office
Experience in space or aerospace hardware which may include quality engineering, material review, inspection, corrective action and audits
