The Position

As a UX Designer, you will be an integral part of the team of passionate people creating and delivering software products that support users in planning, training, and conducting mission operations.  This position is for an Engineer/MTS on our Robotics & Space Operations team at our Brampton office.

With 40 years of operational experience and proven performance on the iconic Canadarm programs including Space Shuttle and International Space Station robotics and operations support, our Robotics & Space Operations team has 100% mission success in making space dreams come true.

As UX Designer, you will contribute as part of a team to the design of software solutions that are used by mission operators on the ground and on orbit. You will work on web and AR/VR based ground control software, simulators, and test tools to support control of robotic arms, rovers, and other robotics in space.

This role will focus on the user experience throughout the entire design lifecycle.  The role will require collaboration with both internal and external clients, subject matter experts, scrum teams and other stakeholders to turn requirements and user needs into a consistent user experience.

Responsibilities:

As part of a team you will:

  • Lead and oversee the user experience of multiple in-development software solutions end-to-end
  • Ensure UX design considerations are incorporated into software applications
  • Assess complex information from multiple sources including system requirements and technical constraints
  • Generate efficient user scenarios, taxonomies, navigation systems, design systems, and clear, visually appealing data visualizations
  • Create and deliver UX artifacts (wireframes, journey maps, low and mid-fidelity renderings, clickable prototypes, storyboards, etc.) to stakeholders, clients, and teams
  • Test and validate deliverables with users via usability testing and participating in design reviews
  • Mentor and grow UX skills in team members via conversations, review of work products, etc.
  • Work in an Agile team and complete committed backlog items within the agreed upon timeframe
  • Other duties as will be assigned from time to time by management or a team lead

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, in multidisciplinary backgrounds such as psychology, computer science, information sciences, human/computer interface design, or graphic design
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in the role of UX Designer, Information Architect, or Product Designer
  • High proficiency in the use of industry software such as Figma or other visual design and wireframing tools
  • Formal training in Design Thinking or Applied Innovation or experience in workshop moderation
  • A portfolio of design work for past projects
  • Experience in creating processes for and performing rapid prototyping and usability testing
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and a positive thinker

Beneficial Skills/Experience

  • Experience developing and maintaining a design pattern library to help create consistency throughout the user interface
  • Human Factors engineering experience, such as performing Task Analysis and Human Error Analysis
  • Experience with verification and validation activities
  • Experience in systems design processes and requirements specification development
  • Agile development
