As a Supplier Quality Engineer II, you will be responsible for assuring the quality of components and subassemblies delivered to Sierra Space from its global supply chain, as well as working with suppliers and Sierra Space Engineering and Procurement to improve component quality and delivery. You'll work in a team environment with suppliers to develop and implement best practices that emphasize defect prevention, reduction in variation and waste and provide for continuous improvements in meeting all requirements. Your technical responsibilities include inspection of various products, documenting. investigating, analyzing and correcting problems in quality, production and control at a supplier location as well as perform audits and supplier evaluation.
Sierra Space—based in Louisville, CO with operations in Madison, WI, Durham, NC, Huntsville, AL, Houston, TX, and Kennedy Space Center, FL—designs and manufactures the Dream Chaser spaceplane and other advanced spacecraft, commercial space destinations, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers, and international organizations. This position will require more than > 60% travel within the United States and internationally.
Must-haves:
Bachelor's Degree in a related field and typically 3 or more years of relevant experience
Higher education may substitute for relevant experience
Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of required education
Knowledge of Quality System requirements and contract quality requirements
Experience in manufacturing and inspection
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics, parts lists, specifications, instructions, and test procedures
Knowledge of ISO9001, AS9001 standards
Preferred:
Experience in the aerospace and defense industry
Ability to acquire a passport for international travel
Previous experience with Root Cause Corrective Action Problem Solving (RCCA) and Corrective Action Preventive Action (CAPA)
ASQ Quality Certifications
Previous experience in Supplier Quality Management
Familiarity with Six Sigma
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to teach basic problem-solving techniques
Self-motivated with a high level of initiative
Strong engineering analysis skills, as well as data analysis and reporting
Strong communication, presentation, and team building skills
Manages time effectively, remains organized in all circumstances
Experience with mechanical, electrochemical, and/or electronic products for space applications
