As part of a diverse and hardworking team of engineers, technicians, and specialists, you will report to the Displays, Controls, Utilization, and Mockups IPT Manager as the Responsible Engineer for audiovisual systems for the Lunar Crew Module.  You will be responsible for the complete definition, design, development, and delivery of flight hardware. A responsible engineer generally has a broad understanding of components, systems and life cycles, but also has depth in one or more areas. You will ensure the team’s work standards and tools align with other Blue Origin business units and with industry trends. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and attention towards safe and reliable spaceflight.

You will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program. You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Transportation system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.

Responsibilities:

  • Own technical design of all audiovisual systems for the Lunar Crew Module, including IVA and EVA cameras, speakers and microphones, and the Lunar Ascent Camera system.
  • Develop and maintain interface definitions between audiovisual systems and other vehicle subsystems including but not limited to: Systems, Electrical Power, Thermal, Structures, Flight Software, Harnessing, Communications, and Command & Data Handling
  • Manage and maintain a full system design and its associated documentation (CAD, drawings, ICDs, BOMs, etc)
  • Perform architecture studies, operability trades, concept development.
  • Develop technical system requirements and support requirements' flow down and verification planning.
  • Coordinate with the integration and test team to ensure verification plans meet system safety requirements. Provide resources to support the I&T team following development.
  • Lead trade studies, analyses, performance characterization and specification, device selections.
  • Lead design risk analyses, failure modes effects and criticality analyses (FMECA), design for test/manufacture/cost (DFx), and root-cause analysis of test discrepancies.
  • Lead periodic design reviews to a Technical Evaluation Committee.
  • Develop, implement, and document the system verification plan for flight and representative hardware at the system level and validate the as-built system prior to launch.
  • Support the development and execution of ground and flight test operations
  • Effectively communicate development status, risks, and challenges to stakeholders and managers.
  • Perform make/buy analyses and work closely with vendors on design-buy, spec-buy, and other procurement efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Computer, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related technical subject areas​.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary development projects, including handling requirements, priorities, vendor management, scope, schedule, and cost.
  • 5+ years of experience in the design of complex hardware.
  • Understanding of the principles, concepts, and methods of Systems Engineering such as concept development, requirement definition, design solution definition, design reviews, implementation, integration, verification and validation, qualification, commissioning, or operations
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment while regularly providing imaginative and detailed technical solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired:

  • Development of high-reliability, low-maintenance audio and/or video systems
  • Computer command and I/O control for sophisticated industrial systems or vehicles
  • RF communication subsystem and/or component design, with a strong background in RF principles
  • Design of Data Acquisition Systems and familiarity with a variety of sensor technologies
  • Background developing sophisticated circuit cards, consumer electronics, wireless devices, or other advanced electronic commercial or aerospace products
  • Experience with human-rated space vehicle hardware
  • Familiarity with CAD (Creo), Windchill PLM, and GD&T
  • Familiarity with C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, and auto coding
  • Familiarity with agile project management

Compensation range for on site CO applicants is $125,400 - $183,920
