Team:

The Materials Engineering Team is a tight-knit, high performing group that plays a crucial role in Relativity’s mission by evaluating and improving the materials that make our rocket. They support engineering teams across the company – Additive, Propulsion, Structures, Avionics, Manufacturing, Launch, and many more. They work collaboratively and efficiently to support the quick iteration time that drives Relativity’s innovations.

What you’ll do:

  • Operate the metallography equipment (for cutting, mounting, polishing, etching), optical microscopes, hardness tester, powder testing equipment in the lab to produce quality materials test results.
  • Maintain the equipment and tools (cleanliness, standard maintenance, etc.)
  • Maintain high quality work and data reporting standards (i.e., computer systems and following industry & internal test standards)
  • Work with the broader materials engineering team and other internal customers to communicate testing needs and requirements.
  • Opportunity to help in a supporting role with other materials testing techniques (i.e., thermal, machining, and mechanical)
  • Interface with:
    • Engineering teams to provide testing data
    • Manufacturing teams to help communicate material needs for specimen testing
    • Leadership to elevate risks and overcome roadblocks

What you need to know:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1+ year experience in hands on technical environment (laboratory, testing, machining, etc.)
  • Highly motivated and ability to learn quickly
  • Highly proficient in verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite

Nice to haves but not required:

  • Experience with machining resources in the lab to produce quality materials test specimens (saws, drills, grinders/sanders, mill, and lathe)
  • Experience with aerospace materials, including high strength aluminum, nickel, copper, and titanium alloys
  • Experience with Atlassian tools (Jira and Confluence)
  • Knowledge of ITAR/EAR compliance
