This is an opportunity to join a hardworking team of diverse engineers and technicians that are dedicated to quality and safety as we ensure the integrity of the avionics onboard a set of the world’s few fully reusable and crew-carrying space launch vehicles! As a Test Engineer on our team, you will be an Avionics Testing Subject Matter Expert responsible for planning, coordinating, and carrying out test campaigns in support of qualification and manufacture of reliable avionics hardware. You’ll have hands on flight hardware, you’ll directly influence the dependability of our delivered vehicles, and you’ll be empowered to proactively shape our team’s operations. Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and approve avionics test plans and procedures with an emphasis on providing your expertise on avionics test and environmental test methodologies and best practices
  • Support Design and Systems Engineers in hardware design/ requirement/verification plan development
  • Work with Hardware and Software Design Engineers to design, build, and verify custom automated test equipment
  • Support schedule development and resource coordination
  • Lead Test Readiness Reviews and as needed team working sessions
  • Ensure test readiness, resolve work stoppages, delegate supporting tasks, and responsibly guide avionics hardware through the environmental testing process
  • Supervise and/or directly run test procedures
  • Supervise and/or directly operate, troubleshoot, and control configurations of automated test equipment
  • Document test anomalies and support root cause investigations
  • Facilitate and support data reviews
  • Ultimately ensure avionics hardware and test records meet engineering and quality requirements upon test completion
  • Train Technicians, Test Operators, and other Test Engineers
  • Develop/improve processes and standard procedures with emphasis on optimizing quality and efficiency of our team’s performance

Minimum Qualifications:Ā 

  • Minimum of a B.S. in electrical, computer engineering or related field
  • Sound knowledge of electronics and electrical circuit fundamentalsĀ in order to support test design/requirement development and root cause investigationsĀ 
  • Experience in research, test, or product development
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication skillsĀ 
  • Passion for hands-on problem solving and continuous improvementĀ 
  • Critical thinking and attention to detail ensuring rigorous test coverage and impeccable test conduct
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team on rapid development programsĀ 
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusionĀ Ā 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:Ā 

Dependent on Level:

  • Experience preparing for and guiding test articles through functional and environmental testing (development, qualification, or acceptance)Ā including Shock/Vibration, Thermal Cycles, Vacuum, and/or EMI/EMC
  • Experience developing test requirements, plans, and procedures
  • Experience developing, operating, testing, or troubleshooting at least two of the following avionics device types: Command & Control, Input/Output, Network, RF, Power, Audio/Video
  • Integration, test, or operations experience in aerospace or similar high pressure/high stakes field (aircraft, launch vehicles, spacecraft, racing teams)Ā 
  • Experience managing complex projects
  • Experience developing, testing, or operating real-time embedded systems
  • Working familiarity with Linux, Python, C/C++
  • Familiar with avionics hardware development life cycle
  • Experience with safety-critical systems development (automotive, aerospace, medical, etc.)Ā 
  • Experience developing hardware to IPC J-STD-0001xS, IPC/WHMA-A-620x-S, and/or NASA-STD-8739.n standardsĀ 
  • Training & Mentorship experience
