Summer Internship: Software Engineer-Telemetry and Commanding Products

Maxar is currently seeking software engineering students to join our 2023 summer intern program in Palo Alto, CA, San Jose, CA, or Westminster, CO. 

You will join the Ground Software team responsible for designing, developing, and deploying telemetry and commanding products. The software you build will support engineering teams and mission operations for multiple satellites, including a core component of returning humans to the Moon. Come be part of building and delivering the next evolution of our ground software capabilities. The products you build will allow operators to safely and efficiently conduct testing, command spacecraft, and enable satellite telemetry processing. No prior space experience is required.

What Our Internship Program Offers:

Our 12-to-13 week internship program provides students with hands-on experience in a variety of disciplines. From robotics to data science, Maxar offers opportunities to gain valuable skills and mentorship by working with cutting-edge technologies and industry-leading experts on real missions. In addition to competitive hourly pay, we provide cross-functional lunch-and-learn sessions, professional development workshops, social events and an executive speaker series. Currently, our 2023 internship program is set to be on-site and in-office.

Minimum requirements for this position:

• Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program with completion of 2 years or more, or currently enrolled in a master's degree program in software engineering, computer science, or related discipline.
• Programming experience with C++ and Python
• Experience building AWS services, including using serverless computing technologies (e.g., Lambda, ECS, EKS)

These skills would be amazing:

• Familiarity with infrastructure as code tools (Terraform) and CI/CD tools (GitLab)
• Familiarity with Linux operating systems such as CentOS
• Experience with microservice architectures and REST APIs
• Experience designing and/or developing web-based observability, data visualization, and user interface applications
• Familiarity with relational, NoSQL, and/or time-series databases (e.g., MySQL, Postgres, DynamoDB, InfluxDB)
• Experience with utilizing automated testing frameworks (JUnit, PyTest, Boost)
• Experience with user-interface design/development (Tcl/Tk, Angular)
• Strong verbal and written communication, organization, and leadership skills

Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate’s unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:

$13.13 - $21.88 hourly.
