Senior Rocket Engines Structural Analyst

As part of a diverse and hardworking team of specialists, you will help build rocket engines and propulsion systems that meet Blue Origin’s launch vehicle program requirements for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of the structural analysis work of rocket engines development programs.

Conduct structural analysis using classical and detailed finite element analysis methods that include complex Engines structural hardware such as valves and integration components including primary & secondary structures, instrumentation hardware, thrusters, ancillary lines, and so on. You will use structural analysis methods to support acceptance test and failure investigations and improve existing analytical capabilities to enhance the performance of designs.

Additional responsibilities include authoring and reviewing analysis files and structural substantiation reports, collaborating with IPTs to ensure deliverables are met on schedule and working with program and functional leadership to solve structural design challenges.

• Lead the structural integrity of subsystems of a rocket engine
• Develop analysis and structural test approach to verify structural capability of engine subsystems
• Use finite element modeling and classical approaches to support design efforts, test activities, and failure investigations
• Improve existing analytical capabilities
• Develop standard processes for analysis methods
• Provide mentorship to design and analysis engineers to improve the structural performance of designs
• Communicate analysis results to the team and other stakeholders

Qualifications

• Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering and 10+ years of experience in structural analysis utilizing FEA
• Experience with structural modeling of pressurized components, rocket engine hardware, or similar high-performance hardware
• Excellent understanding of structural mechanics including strength, fatigue, fracture, and dynamics
• Proactively work to improve methods and processes and ensures all activities meet or exceeds customer requirements
• Ability to direct a team of engineers, mentor junior analysts and designers
• Ability to work efficiently in teams within and across different sites
• Ability to be self-directed and balance several tasks simultaneously
• Ability to communicate analysis results successfully
• Ability to act as a liaison outside of your assigned work group
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired

• Experience with rocket engine component analysis, structural modeling of aerospace or other high-performance primary and secondary structures
• Knowledge of ANSYS Classical and Workbench useful.
• Experience developing analysis tools
• Knowledge of at least one programming/scripting language (Python/MATLAB/VBA etc.)
• Experience with manufacturing, production hardware and NC dispositions
