Space Forge is transforming return from space to deliver previously impossible products and materials, for the benefit of humanity. We are developing an end-to-end service for a satellite that can be launched into orbit, manufacture new materials, return independently, then be recovered, refurbished and relaunched. Our facility in Cardiff is capable of producing and supporting orbital vehicles, specialised manufacturing payloads, vehicle recovery operations and in flight mission support activities.

We are looking for a full time embedded software engineer, with experience of using the Bright Ascension Generation One framework, to join our team. You will help build software to run on our satellites in space.

The primary roles for this job are:

  • Module-level software design using the Bright Ascension GenerationOne framework
  • Coding in embedded C using the Bright Ascension GenerationOne framework
  • Documentation and testing

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Knowledge share and upskill across the team of the Bright Ascension framework
  • Ability to take the software requirements for a Bright Ascension GenerationOne component, and design and build software to meet those requirements.
  • Ability to understand 3rd party peripheral datasheets, and peripheral interface (protocol) definition documents, to design, code and test a software component to drive that peripheral
  • Ability to write great documentation covering the design, interfaces, protocols and implementation.
  • Build unit tests, integration tests, and subsystem tests. This will include writing subsystem test scripts in Python 3. It will also include writing and executing manual testing plans.

Essential experience

  • Minimum 1 year of Bright Ascension GenerationOne software development.

Desirable experience:

  • Knowledge of C++
  • Knowledge of Python
  • Other coding experience
  • Ability to understand electronics schematics.
  • Working knowledge of the space industry and European space standards;
  • Knowledge of Agile and Waterfall working practices;
  • Experience with Slack, Asana and Gsuite as productivity tools.

Salary expectation: £30,000 to £45,000 depending upon experience.
