Safety Technician

Duties

• Provide Range Safety oversight for Uninhabited Aerial Systems (UAS) flight operations both at Langley and off-site facilities.
• Conduct airworthiness inspections of Langley owned UAS and generate reports/emails detailing open issues or successful completion of the inspection.
• Provide Visual Observer support for UAS flight operations.
• Serve as the Facility Coordinator and Safety Head for the North Range, conducting monthly safety inspections, mitigating unsafe conditions on the range and deconflicting various users of the range.
• Participate in and contribute to Hazard Working Groups, Operational Readiness Reviews, Mishap Preparedness and Contingency Plan development.
• Provide logistical support for Langley owned and sponsored UAS flight activities.

Qualifications

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

GS-12: To qualify at the GS-12 level, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service:

• Determining airworthiness of Uninhabited Aerial Systems (UAS) or other aircrafts;
• Applying Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) UAS regulations to safety for aviation operations with crewed or uncrewed aircrafts;
• Identifying critical components and procedures related to overall safe aviation operations.
