We are looking for a skilled and motivated Back-end Software Engineer II to join a team developing Orbital Reef Logistics Software, including, on-orbit interfaces, logistics and transportation simulations, supply chain systems, and object-tracking systems. As a software engineer focused on logistics tools, you will be a key member of a team of experts supporting the Orbital Reef Space Station, developing software platforms to enable real-time analysis and decision-making. We are constantly innovating in the ways we are automating and accelerating the delivery of products using innovative software and hardware technologies. We use the latest AWS technologies, data approaches, and machine learning to build distributed highly available systems to achieve our goals.
Participate deeply in all aspects of software development lifecycle, including developing verifiable requirements, creating/documenting/implementing software architectures and designs, writing planning specifications, systems integration, test development and execution, deployment, issue resolution and maintenance
Share knowledge and experience in performance, scalability, enterprise system architecture, and engineering standard methodologies
Identify and champion areas for automation and creating clean workflows and processes
Actively work with product owner and scrum master to support sprint planning and backlog grooming session
Produce quality user documentation for defining the architecture of systems and their interactions
Bachelors of Science degree in an aerospace engineering, computer science, software engineering, or related discipline and typically three (3) years developing data-driven products, including web-based services or products; higher education may substitute for relevant experience
Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of required education
Strong understanding of software engineering principles, including object-oriented design and the ability to translate domain expertise into applications
Experience ingesting data from a wide variety of sources including NoSQL databases, REST endpoints, etc.
Strong familiarity with SQL and database systems
Solid understanding of version control systems
Have an ability to take technical ownership, step in to help team members as needed, collaborate with team members to identify, and fix technical problems.
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
Experience with event-driven systems and technologies
Experience with data-manipulation, plotting, and simulation libraries, such as Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, SciKitLearn, SimPy, Salabim, etc.
Experience with parallel/concurrent computation technologies and architectures
Experience with AWS Services, RDS, Lambda, SNS, SQS
Familiar with Infrastructure as Code and relevant technologies
Experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes or other relevant containerization technologies
Experience creating monitoring and metrics dashboards/alarms using tools such as DataDog, NewRelic, Cloudwatch
Understanding of authentication and security strategies and IoT architectures
Experience developing software in an aerospace environment
Experience with discrete event simulation, finite state machines, object-oriented design
