flight systems

We are a diverse team of collaborators, doers, and problem-solvers who are relentlessly committed to a culture of safety. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin’s vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth!

As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will design, analyze, and verify guidance, navigation, and control (GN&C) software for spaceflight systems. In this role, you will build on our existing human-rated GN&C software to improve reliability, enable capabilities, and reduce operating cost. You will also perform system analyses, including simulations and Monte-Carlo, to satisfy specifications and requirements and to drive system-level architectural decisions. Our team is responsible for the full life-cycle of GN&C development, from design through to unit, hardware-in-the-loop, on-vehicle functionality, and flight testing. You will contribute to a sophisticated multi-degree of freedom aerospace simulation and test framework, and develop and maintain design descriptions and supporting documentation.

You should be working in a fast-paced and sometimes uncertain environment, supplying solutions, while demonstrating leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that some people are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single desired qualification. At Blue Origin, we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.

  • Define requirements, then craft, develop, and verify software for safety-critical Navigation systems
  • Perform analyses, including covariance and Monte Carlo simulations, to satisfy top-level system requirements and specifications
  • Assist in developing verification and validation procedures to ensure software products will perform as specified to meet system and subsystem requirements
  • Support hardware-in-the-loop testing, on-vehicle functional testing, and flight testing
  • Find opportunities for safety improvements and operational cost savings

  • M.S. degree in Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related program
