As part of a small, rapidly evolving team, you’ll be responsible for materials and process engineering tasks related to the selection, design, and manufacturing of the New Glenn system. These tasks include supporting design for producibility and manufacturability as well as materials selection and characterization.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with cross-functional teams that are responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and suppliers to produce world-class aerospace hardware
  • Collaborate closely with design, manufacturing, and quality to define material requirements and successfully implement production solutions pertaining to:
    • Corrosion Prevention
    • Anodization
    • Chemical Conversion Coating
    • Topcoats
    • Primers
    • Wear and Abrasion Resistant Finishes
    • Sealants, Greases, and Lubricants
  • Develop and define internal engineering, such as complex testing matrices of representative subscale hardware assemblies, and quality processes to standardize and accelerate material evaluation and implementation for corrosion prevention and control
  • Ensure M&P design requirements are met through the review and refinement of part designs, drawings, and manufacturing controls
  • Up to 25% of travel

Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree or higher in chemical engineering, materials science & engineering, corrosion engineering, or related field
  • 8-10+ years experience in material and process engineering or program support engineering with specialization in corrosion finishes design for aerospace vehicles
  • Experience developing and executing plans for material characterization, such as mechanical testing, metallographic and fractographic analyses, thermal analysis, corrosion testing, chemical analysis, and material compatibility
  • Experience supporting design and manufacturing teams in an aerospace environment, including preparing specifications, and test reports
  • Demonstrated technical depth in finishes and protective coatings for corrosion prevention on aluminum and steel alloys
  • Deep knowledge of corrosion and finishes related ASTM test standards
  • Experience interacting with aerospace suppliers, including on-site engineering audits, technical interchanges, supplier qualifications, and statistical process controls
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle small and large projects with diverse customers
  • Ability to develop engineering requirements for undefined material forms and processes
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired:

  • MS or PhD in chemical engineering, materials science, or materials engineering

  • Knowledge of material behavior and compatibility in liquid fuel propellants such as hydrogen, oxygen, and methane

  • Experience testing materials for performance at a wide range of temperatures: cryogenic to orbital re-entry

  • Experience participating in industry standards committees and aerospace organizations

  • Experience with the statistical treatment of test data and the generation of design values using software such as Minitab or JMP

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.

Estimated salary wage (Colorado only):

Engineer- Materials & Process III- $109K - $163K

Engineer- Materials & Process Sr- $132K - $200K
