As a successful Scientist, you will conduct research and development activities, including developing technical documentation for all projects. You will apply fundamental research, standards, and models when conducting experiments and targeted research activities. You will present research results and findings to internal and external customers, and assessing the scope of research projects to ensure projects are on time and within budget. You may also autonomously develop component and system-level design solutions of varying complexity using a combination of engineering work products. In addition, you may review and utilize specifications from various sources to ensure applicable provisions are utilized in detailed design phases.
Primary Responsibilities:
Support various activities for propellant characterization and testing with other tasks as assigned
Develop equipment and procedures, perform testing and analysis, and assist in sourcing or overseeing testing at suppliers
Assist in maintaining the laboratory environment, supplies/inventory, equipment maintenance and calibrations, and lab procedures
Strong knowledge and experience in wet chemical analysis and operation of chemical analysis equipment (such as GC, TXRF, ICP-MS, FTIR, automatic titrators, etc.)
Strong knowledge of analytical chemistry, materials science, chemical processes, and chemical equipment
Strong knowledge of analytical methods and software packages (such as Minitab, LabView, and comparable)
Safely work unsupervised in a chemical laboratory with hazardous materials including rocket propellants, explosives, acids, etc.
Must-haves:
Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Chemical Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline and typicallyย 0-2 or more years of relevant experience
Knowledge of scientific principles and practices
Experience in designing and conducting scientific experiments
Documented record of accomplishments in the relevant field
Ability to solve moderate to complex analytical problems and provide solutions that meet technical objectives
Preferred:
Experience with rocket propellants and/or explosives
Experience designing complicated multivariable experiments, set up and run the experiments, perform detailed statistical analysis of the data and report results
Experience designing equipment/test apparatus
Knowledge of process safety management (PSM), Hazard Analysis, process piping code, pressure vessel code, NFPA and AMSE codes for chemical processing facilities
Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams
Background in designing products through all phases and lifecycles while assisting development teams through the various stages of the system and/or software development lifecycle
Experience with fabrication and testing of prototypes
Ability to develop logical ideas and innovative solutions for product development
Create and identify Intellectual Property, including patents and trade secrets
Able to maintain DOT hazmat ground shipper certification
The ability to pass BATFE background check to obtain explosives manufacturing credentials may be required

Salary range: $60,835.00 - $83,648.13
