NEUTRON ROCKET

Neutron is a medium lift launch vehicle capable of delivering the mega constellations of tomorrow, high assurance payloads, and human spaceflight. As a highly reusable launch platform, Neutron will deliver a highly cost-effective and reliable launch solution leveraging Rocket Labโ€™s proven execution history with the Electron program.ย 

The Design Engineer, Neutron draws on engineering and design principles to turn mechanical and fluid component concepts into detailed designs. You will collaborate closely with a team of engineers to design and build components and fluid systems that span the entire vehicle, from flight control surfaces to payload deployment systems and high-pressure propellant valves, which enable Neutron to operate with aircraft-like reusability and reliability.

WHAT YOU'LL GET TO DO:

  • Collaborate with team to develop clean sheet designs from concept through to production, test and operation
  • Perform system and component layout in CAD and drive architecture optimization
  • Create and maintain product definition through CAD, production drawings, and test and operations procedures
  • Develop and maintain design best practices and processes across the Neutron program
  • Perform trade studies to optimize for cost, performance, reliability
  • Participate in design, manufacturing and test reviews

YOU'LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in relevant engineering discipline
  • 1+ years of experience with the design, test or production of complex mechanisms or fluid systems
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Strong engineering fundamentals in structural and fluid mechanics
  • Working knowledge of GD&T principles and tolerance stack-ups
  • Experience with commercial CAD software (e.g. NX, SolidWorks, Inventor)
  • Proven ability to practically apply engineering fundamentals to solve real, complex problems

THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:ย 

  • 3+ years experience in a fast-paced aerospace environment where you have completed difficult projects while collaborating effectively with other key groups
  • Deep knowledge of mechanical component manufacturing, assembly, and testing processes
  • Experience routing fluid lines, including basic sizing, hand-calcs, and CAD implementation
  • Experience creating and interpreting P&IDs
  • Experience with electro-mechanical or hydraulic devices
