As a Structural Engineer, you will be using your skills and expertise to design, evaluate, and certify our cutting edge products and services. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You'll examine complex metallic and composite structures and systems. Your technical duties involve the design and development of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle.

SNC’s subsidiary, Sierra Space, based in Louisville, Colorado with operations in Madison, Wisconsin and Durham, North Carolina, designs and manufactures advanced spacecraft, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers and international organizations. Must-haves:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, related discipline and typically 6 or more years of relevant experience; Master’s of Science degree maybe substituted for 2 years of experience 

  • Understanding of engineering principles and practices 

  • Practical knowledge of Static and/or Dynamic Analyses 

  • Professional experience performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools with NASTRAN, Abaqus, or ANSYS 

  • Professional experience performing structural analysis using industry standard hand calculation methods 

  • Ability to author substantiation reports 

  • Ability to work in multi‐disciplinary design and development teams 

  • Experience with aerospace structural design, fabrication, and repair methods for military and/or commercial aircraft 

  • Experience in the design, development and analyses of complex and/or large aerospace structures 

  • Familiarity with military and commercial aerospace catalog of standards, fasteners, and material properties

 

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Thermal Protection Systems (TPS) materials, such as AETB tile and strain isolation pads, and their unique characteristics 

  • Proficiency with FEMAP/NASTRAN analysis tools and methods 

  • Proficiency with MATLAB programming and automation 

  • Experience working with Materials and Processes (M&P) experts to define material characterization matrices for non-metallic materials 

  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry 

  • Knowledge and familiarity regarding the environmental compatibility of equipment and installations per MIL‐STD‐810 and/or RTCA DO‐160

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required. Learn more about the background check process for Security Clearances

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $88,499.72 - $121,687.12
