Team:  

The Additive Development Team is responsible for developing the core materials, robotic, software, NDE, simulation and additive manufacturing technology that is the backbone of Relativity's Stargate Class 3D Printers, producing orbital-class launch vehicles and beyond.

As an early member of our small-scale additive manufacturing group you will be critical to building not only our processes and procedures but also building the culture of the team that operates our Laser Powder Bed Fusion (SLM / DMLS / DMLM) printers. You will be core to producing flight parts and the team that develops and introduces new additive technologies and techniques. You will identify and implement solutions to increase safety, productivity and operational efficiency within the team. You will be responsible for developing standard operating procedures, analyzing complex production data, monitoring and improving equipment performance and building a culture of continuous improvement. 

What you’ll do: 

In this role you will work closely with development engineers, production control, and equipment technicians. Your input and feedback with be critical to keeping the team at the cutting edge. Your attention to detail and consistency will keep our operations at peak performance. 

To be successful in this role, you need to be able to thrive in ambiguity, identify problems and quickly resolve them, and provide definition to the previously undefined. You will need to balance a scrappy, get-it-done attitude with a vision for the long-term processes required for scaling and efficiency! 

  • Own and drive process improvement efforts within our powder bed fusion (PBF) printing cells – this includes machine operation and post-processing
  • Be responsible for delivering the highest quality part in the safest and most efficient manner
  • Responsible for the management and closure of issue tickets for flight and development components
  • Develop and deploy methods to determine manufacturing efficiencies and drive root cause analysis for top quality and process issues
  • Work hand-in-hand with machine technicians, development engineers, quality department, software, simulation and design teams to build creative, long-lasting solutions

What you need to know:  

  • 2+ years of related experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Familiar with standard lean manufacturing practices such as 5S, value stream mapping, visual factory, error proofing, Six Sigma and root cause analysis 
  • Identify capital tooling and work center capability needs and lead the efforts of standing up key Factory capabilities
  • Hands-on engineer that will manage projects on the factory floor
  • Experience with installing and validating new equipment 
  • Strong verbal communication skills and attention to detail

Nice to haves but not required:  

  • 2+ years of experience with powder based additive manufacturing
  • Experience justifying and managing large capital projects
  • Ability to work within 3D models utilizing NX, AutoCAD or similar CAD programs
  • Experience with quality control efforts for metal 3D printed components
