Senior MTS - Software Safety Product Assurance

The Position

We’re on the hunt for a Senior Software Safety Engineer on our Robotic and Space Operations Safety & Mission Assurance team at our Brampton office.

With 40 years of operational experience and proven performance on the iconic Canadarm programs including Space Shuttle and International Space Station robotics and operations support, our Robotics & Space Operations team has 100% mission success in making space dreams come true.

As a Senior Software Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for product safety requirements and analysis on the Gateway/Canadarm 3 program.  

Responsibilities:

The major responsibilities of this role include:

• Product safety development
  • Performing safety/hazard assessments and analyses on projects involving complex electromechanical systems with a significant software component.
  • Performing software criticality analysis
  • Developing product software safety requirements to meet customer and mission requirements
  • Performing trade-off studies to ensure the requirements are the right requirements
  • Working with design, systems engineering and software groups to ensure that safety-related inputs are incorporated into the design.
  • Analyzing safety-critical software documentation and source code for safety
  • Analyzing reused software for safety
  • Defend safety decisions to internal and external customers
  • Ensure safety requirements are met in design phase
  • Contribute to System Safety Analysis Reports
  • Be the MDA safety representative and present safety designs and analysis at a variety of external customer safety review panels
• Maintaining current software safety processes and training material
  • Reviewing and developing current safety processes, best practices and training material
  • Constantly improving the safety best practices across our major business areas of space safety, industrial safety and medical safety.
• Team mentoring and development

Requirements:

Interested candidates should possess:

• Software safety experience in a safety-critical development environment, preferably in aerospace. Experience with Canadian Space Agency or NASA an asset.
• 8+ years of engineering work experience.
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Software, Computer, or Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science
• Ability to communicate with and work alongside multiple engineering disciplines to develop safety requirements
• Ability to multi-task across projects and teams.
• A strong aptitude for continuous improvement.
• Excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation skills.
