As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will lead and guide a program team or an integrated product team supporting one of our Blue Engine programs.ย  Our engines are being developed to support the mission of affordable, low-cost access to space. This role will manage the overall scope, schedule, budget and risk for your assigned system/ sub-system.

As part of a passionate and accomplished team, you will work at the intersection of program management, engineering, supply chain, production and test organizations, improving team effectiveness and coordination, and ensuring that the right people are working together to solve problems and deliver results on time.ย  This position will support all aspects of program management to include cost, schedule, technical/ design and risk management as well as working with Blue Origin internal organizations and suppliers to deliver a qualified system.

The scope of the role spans product development, qualification for flight, transitioning hardware to rate production, and supporting robust commercial flight operations including managing production, maintenance, repair and ongoing product upgrades/improvements.ย  Customer and Government contractor interaction will be required.

This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities

  • Drive execution of your assigned engine development program to execute approved scope on budget and schedule
  • Manage product development planning, testing, certification and transiting to successful commercial flight operations with focus on customer satisfaction
  • Provide technical and programmatic leadership by maintaining robust documentation of your approved program scope & deliverables, ensuring scope is clearly communicated across all Blue Origin supporting organizations, and you/your team facilitate alignment of the resource needs, resource availability and time-phased budgets
  • Facilitate support from Blue Origin Support Functions: Operations, Integrated Supply Chain (ISC), Test and Flight Ops (TFO), Safety and Mission Assurance (S&MA) and other support organization
  • Establish and maintain regular business rhythm, consistent review products, action tracking, and consolidate information for effective decision making, including maintaining and routinely reporting performance to plan on schedule, resources, program/ product cost, and technical performance metrics for program and company level reviews
  • Liaise between various internal/ external businesses partners and process owners to facilitate seamless program execution
  • Work with Chief Engineering and Engines engineering/design teams to identify and resolve technical issues across the product lifecycle
  • Lead large and complex technical trades
  • Develop project summary presentations for customer reviews, internal team meetings and support to Blue Origin communications team
  • Lead change management activities to evaluate, coordinate, approve and effectively deploy new program/Business Unit requirements or changes to company execution plans
  • Lead program risk management processeds, tracking and implementation of mitigation plans across all programmatic measures including cost, schedule and technical performance.

Qualifications

  • Passion for Blue Originโ€™s mission: Millions of people living and working in space!

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering

  • 15+ years liquid rocket engine, military/commercial turbine engine, spacecraft, launch vehicle, or aircraft systems development experience

  • 7+ years in progressive project management roles including experience as the technical or subsystem lead

  • Demonstrated technical expertise in one or more of the following product areas with experience across the full product life cycle: Military/commercial turbine engines/ components, liquid rocket engines/components, aerospace fluid/mechanical systems in disciplines including systems engineering, controls, software, manufacturing, integration or test

  • Highly organized leader with excellent technical written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated track record of resourcefulness, strong business and technical judgement and bias for action from their previous assignments.

  • Successful experience in hiring and developing great people with diverse skill sets and demonstrated ability to motivate and organize effective teams and resolve conflicts.

  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, dynamic work environment and ability to travel in support of the program, customer and supplier activities.

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired:

  • MBA, Program Management Professional (PMP) certification and Earned Value Management System (EVMS) experience.ย  Experience with critical path scheduling, IMP/IMS, risk management, requirements management and Cost Account Management such as EVM.
  • M.S. in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or systems engineering and experience with military/commercial turbine engine/liquid rocket engine development, production and operations
  • Experience with verification, integration, and test aerospace engines
  • Strong business management acumen and experience managing large, geographically dispersed programs with large subcontractors
  • Experience with proposal leadership or support (technical/management volumes, BOE development, etc.)
