Maxar is seeking a Business Development Director that can be located in the DC Metro Area, Colorado, or California. The Director of Business Development is responsible for selling existing Maxar Robotics products and services to the space market and identifying growth opportunities for new products and other markets. In collaboration with Maxar Space BD teams, the Director of BD will also be responsible to support Maxar Technologies' broader US Government pursuits.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The BD Director will define Maxar Robotics market strategy, identify and pursue potential business opportunities and coordinate capture efforts. Managing external customer relationships, managing a pipeline of pursuits and reporting the status of all activities and pursuits to management are essential functions of this job. The Director of Business Development will identify, investigate, and assess business opportunities in the space market, primarily focused on NASA, JPL, DARPA, and other USG agencies
He/she will also assess opportunities in other markets where Maxar Robotics expertise and technology can be leveraged. In response to these opportunities, he/she will coordinate capture strategies and ultimately proposal responses, including responses to traditional USG Requests for Information (RFIs), Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and other solicitations.
As a core responsibility, this position will lead proposal development and submission activity.
Work with technical, program, financial and executive review and approval team to develop competitive proposals and other customer submissions.
Participate in the writing of key sections of proposals and RFIs and reviewing of all sections.
The Director will communicate extensively with current and potential customers. Significant internal communication is required with operational departments and particularly with the engineering department.
He/she is required to read and understand technical and non-technical documents as they relate to the sales of and contracts for the company's products.
The ability to interface with both technical and non-technical personnel, particularly in the procurement and contracts areas, is required, including formulating new applications, concepts, and technologies.
The Director will have primary responsibility for developing marketing plans for Maxar Robotics products and capabilities on their own as well as in context of Maxar Technologies in total and reporting marketing performance to management.
He/she may also lead proposal development activities and ensure that proposals and other customer communications are compliant and competitive.
The Director makes recommendations regarding proposal strategy and pricing.
Significant travel is often required supporting customer visits, presentations, trade shows and conferences.
Other responsibilities include generation of brochures and other marketing materials, conference coordination, social media contributions and web site maintenance.
Must be a US citizen with ability to obtain a security clearance.
A Bachelor degree in a technical domain (i.e.; engineering) is required; Master's is desired
Seven+ years of experience in the space industry is required.
Proven track record of advanced technology and/or robotics program management or business development.
Detailed knowledge of the space industry including extensive customer contacts and working knowledge of the mechanical technology used in Maxar Robotics products is required.
Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including the ability to generate and present proposals and marketing briefs, is required.
Detailed organization skills and the ability to coordinate and status multiple concurrent marketing efforts and pipeline of pursuits is required.
Significant travel required
All Maxar U.S. employees and international employees who work in the U.S. and visit Maxar sites must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 no later than January 18, 2022, except in cases where legally entitled to an exception.
