About the role
As a Loads & Environments Analyst in Rocket Labโ€™s Analysis team you will contribute to the analysis, design validation, and future improvements of Rocket Labโ€™s suite of Launch Vehicles, Space Systems, and Space Components. Day to day, you will be expected to define test and flight instrumentation requirements, analyse test and flight data, define vehicle dynamic loads and environments, and help validate analysis, design, and system performance. Scope of work may additionally extend to helping develop software and hardware tools to support data analysis as well as customer interaction.

Essential skills

  • A degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or similar field
  • 2+ years industry experience, ideally from the Aerospace, Automotive, or Marine industries
  • A keen physics-based approach to problem solving
  • Strong command of structural dynamics and/or signals & systems
  • Familiarity with programming, especially in Python
  • Familiarity with static and dynamic structural test methods, including: Model Correlation, Random Vibration, Equivalent Sine Input and Shock
  • Experience using NX CAD and Teamcenter packages (or comparable industry standard packages) with emphasis on model interrogation and defeaturing for subsequent analyses
  • Experience with sensor selection and data post-processing/ interpretation (accelerometers, strain gauges, thermocouples etc.)
  • Comfort executing to changing deadlines within a high-pressure environment
  • Comfort working independently and, in a team
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues and engineering professionals

Desirable skills

  • Familiarity with vibroacoustic modelling and analysis
  • Familiarity with one or more industry standard structural FEA packages: ANSYS, Abaqus, Nastran, Optistruct/Hyperworks
  • Understanding of accurate prediction of component life and structural margins, including:
    • o Ductile metal failure
    • o Fatigue
    • o Fracture
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, including conventional machining, and additive manufacturing
  • Experience in structural analysis of composites (laminate design, joint design, materials characterization, environmental effects)
  • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g. MIL-STD-1540, GSFC-STD-7000, ECSS-E-HB-32, NASA-STD-5001)
