The Role 

Launcher’s Test Engineer will support ongoing propulsion testing and advance the development of our Launcher Orbiter spacecraft.

In this role, you will be working under the direction of the Testing Team Lead, Orbiter Program Manager, and Chief Designer to test Orbiter’s bi-propellant engine, 3D printed propellant tanks and pressure components, and all structural components (TVC, Separation Ring, etc). The Test Engineer will also support the design and reiteration of current and future test stands including structures, plumbing, controls system/sensors, and/or data acquisition system.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent engineering work experience. 
  • Capable of complex/creative problem-solving. 
  • Hands-on prototyping.
  • Confident use of basic tools/power tools ie. wrenches, ratchets, drills.
  • Experience following/developing testing procedures.
  • Eagerness to learn new skills.
  • Ability to work as a teammate and independently to achieve ambitious goals.
  • Able to lift 35lbs unassisted.
  • Able to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment exposed to extreme weather conditions.
  • Flexibility to work overtime and adapt to a varying schedule

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Hands-on experience with fluid systems involving pressurized cylinders, regulators, tanks, valves, tubing, fittings, and other plumbing elements (College experience/internships).
  • Ability to read and create Plumbing & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID).
  • LabView or similar data acquisition programming experience.
  • Proficient soldering skills.
  • Sensors, actuators, and integration with data acquisition systems.
  • Sensor calibration (pressure transmitters, TCs, strain gauges, etc).
  • Data analysis (with MATLAB, python, or similar).
  • Fabrication, welding, CNC machining, and 3D printing (plastic, metal).
  • CAD (SOLIDWORKS or Siemens NX preferred).
  • Ability to read electrical schematics.
  • Experience wiring electronics and cable routing.
  • Purchasing and sourcing
