Position Title: Software Program Manager for Space Operations

You must be comfortable and composed working in a highly technical environment across development, test, and devops, etc., while resolving day-to-day problems with functional and technical subject matter experts. You will be responsible for getting people on the same page and driving towards common goals. You will actively develop and evangelize best practices for ensuring delivery and continual improvement that is informed by tactical, operational and strategic measures. You must be a quick thinker with the ability to make key decisions with multiple simultaneous dimensions in mind.

To be successful you'll need to have a track record of execution, experience partnering with engineering leadership, experience working closely with software development principles, and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide software program management for the space operations team running and developing the BlackSky satellite constellation.
• Work directly with software and system engineering to provide transparent and accountable project management with clear communication and positive governance through software lifecycle.
• Manage and own the software development process – run meetings for demo/retrospectives and requirements gathering. Facilitate decision-making, prioritization and the keep the backlog groomed.
• Help determine critical milestones and build project & process plans to meet them.
• Identify program risks and mitigation options then drive to resolution.
• Provide regular project status report for broad communication and monthly reports to the leadership team.
• Review and adjust the software development process to maximize business velocity with the quality necessary to operate satellites.
• Build and maintain excellent relationships and negotiate effectively with internal customers and resource teams to deliver space operations software and help the achievement of all stated program requirements.
• Clearly communicate goals, roles, responsibilities, and desired outcomes to cross-functional project teams.
• Maintain awareness on delivery of contributing deliverables.

Required Qualifications:

• Space experience is nice but not required for this position. Great software program management skills are.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated influencer across teams and organizations. Proven success in leading and participating in cross-functional teams to deliver on key projects.
• A deep understanding of the software development process and a track record of shipping software on time.
• Working experience with an Agile development process and how to customize it to fit team and business needs.
• Bachelors or Masters degree or equivalent demonstrated work experience and/or 5+ years of relevant program management experience.
• Must be a U.S. Person.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Economics or equivalent demonstrated work experience
• 5+ years of relevant program management experience.
• Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions.
• Basic understanding of radio communications and orbital mechanics would be very helpful in getting started.
