Astra leads the industry in applying agile iterative development to space launch systems.  Astra’s System Engineering team is at the center of this process: orchestrating the technical details for our current and future rockets, engaging in immediate and long-term analysis to determine what rockets to build and when, managing all requirements across the entire company, ensuring proper baseline/change control thru configuration & data management and leading high-level engineering reviews. We work in close collaboration with a wide spectrum of stakeholders both inside and outside of Astra, delivering answers bound by physics and engineering. Our input is vital to making sure we are building the right thing.

As Astra’s Configuration Data Management (CDM) Lead, you will contribute to improving our processes and advancing engineering excellence across our development, production and flight programs.  Some of the areas you will contribute to include:

The Opportunity

  • Management of program baselines and change control to these baselines
  • Configuration and Data Management (CDM) lead position responsible for requirements, design, hardware and software configuration management   
  • Oversees Configuration Change Board, Configuration Status Accounting, Configuration Audits, and Data Management (DM)
  • Reviews and analyzes released engineering change data and coordinates changes with engineering, quality, support, manufacturing, and operations
  • Evaluate changes for need, cost, and schedule impact to contract and collaborate discussions across all functional disciplines
  • Manage data inputs into product data management tools and configuration trace systems to ensure configuration and revision control integrity of technical baselines
  • Validate and verify configuration status accounting process to ensure key data is captured; provides guidance/direction for proper data entry and creation of configuration trace structure and open item creation and closures.
  • Prepare/update Configuration Data Management Plans and other program directives defining program CM and DM processes
  • Ensure that CM and DM requirements are implemented in compliance with CDM plan

How You'll Fulfill Your Mission

  • Partner: with our Engineering, Production, Test and Operations teams to create and manage our configuration data management system that will make a difference in how Astra operates and give your perspective on how the teams should best do their work
  • Build: the system that will set and control our critical baselines
  • Collaborate: across the Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations and Product organizations to ensure we manage our baselines and manage changes
  • Develop: Create and oversee processes that will enable Astra to stay disciplined in our configuration data management

Why We Value you

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a technical or related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education
  • 5 years of related experience in Configuration & Data Management
  • Subject Matter Expertise of CDM processes
  • Experience using Team Center/Windchill, JIRA and Confluence tools
  • Experience with working in a development, production and sustainment environment
  • Experience interfacing with all engineering, manufacturing, quality and operation disciplines and be able to work in a team environment and work independently as required
  • Knowledgeable of principles, standards and processes in EIA-649, Configuration Management Standard

Desired Multipliers

  • Experience in a role that required excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities
  • Experience creating, maintaining and analyzing product structure, correcting errors within Configuration Status Accounting (CSA) tool
  • Understanding of Data Management process and relationship to CDRLs, SDRLs and Data Rights
  • Familiarity with Export Control regulations (EAR/ITAR)

ITAR Requirements: This position requires compliance with U.S. Government space technology  trade restrictions, specifically the International Trafficking in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and additional regulations governing satellite, launch vehicle, missile, and other related technologies.  All jobs restricted by these regulations will be contingent upon the applicant’s status as a documented U.S. Person or their ability to receive a trade license from the cognizant government agency; in addition to any required company background checks and in compliance with applicable U.S. and California laws.  Similarly, positions requiring the ability to work on government contracts or a security clearance are also contingent upon the applicants ability to receive the appropriate clearance and be allowed to work on U.S. government contracts.
