We are on the hunt for a Software Engineer on our GeoIntelligence team embedded with DND in the Halifax Dockyard Headquarters and our Dartmouth office.

Our mission is to turn data into insight. From detecting changes in fragile ecosystems to monitoring northern ice floes and shipping routes, our near-real time data of Earth observation and the environment makes our Geointelligence team a leader in geospatial imagery, ground stations, enterprise geospatial systems and defence programs. This position will allow the candidate to gain experience in the field of Operational Military Command and Control and Maritime Security Systems. The candidate will be joining a well-established team, working closely with the operational support team at DND to provide critical support tools to our DND customer. The workflow and processes for taking code from development through to production is well established and clear to follow.


  • Create and modify code and software
  • Create and modify screens and reports
  • Design methods and procedures for small computer systems, and sub-system of larger systems
  • Develop, test and implement small computer systems, and sub-systems of larger systems
  • Produce forms, manuals, programs, data files, and procedures for systems and/or applications
  • Write code to write to and read from a database
  • Unit test the code prior to releasing it for integration testing
  • Monitor the need for design changes as the project progresses
  • Assist in the development of test plans for testing the system


  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the last 10 years creating and modifying code and developing and maintaining software
  • Must have minimum of 3 years’ experience programming in some combination of Java, C3 and/or C++
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year experience performing requirements analysis and design for IT/IM projects
  • Experience with SQL
  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented software design
  • Experience with structured unit testing and regression testing
  • Strong software development experience, from detailed design through test and deployment
  • Effective communication, both verbally and written
  • Computer Science, Computer/ Engineering degree from a recognized university

Nice To Have:

  • Experience with Vue and/or Angular
  • Experience with Gradle, Jenkins CI/CD, Nexus, Git/GitLab, JIRA, Ansible and Linux
  • Experience with Microservices Architecture, Kafka Message Queues and MongoDB
  • Experience with DaqNet API
  • Experience with real-time signal processing in C/C++
  • Understanding of DevOps
  • 10+ years’ experience in Software Development Life Cycles
