We're shaping our future in space and we’re looking for dedicated and inspired people to join us.

We are looking for someone to apply their deep Electrical Power Systems technical expertise, natural leadership and organizational skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact the bold missions at Blue Origin. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

As the Responsible Engineer (RE) for Solar Array solutions within this innovative and diverse team in Blue Origin’s Advanced Development Program (ADP), you will apply your electrical power systems expertise and knowledge to understand and scope creative solutions for the highly technical challenges, finding innovative, cost-effective means to meet the ambitious program requirements for specific aerospace applications including unique demonstrator and reusable spacecraft and spacecraft systems.

Along the way, you will develop technical work plans and mentor junior engineers on the team to improve research, techniques, procedures, products, and technologies. You will develop, manage, and maintain a full system design and its associated documentation - CAD, drawings, ICDs, BOMs, etc. and provide technical support during flight build, test, and delivery to other areas of the technical execution team. This role will require you to work closely with the program and manufacturing team through build, test, and delivery of flight hardware.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the short- and long-term requirements, design, and development of solar array energy collection for current and next-generation spacecraft and spacecraft systems at Blue Origin

  • Perform due diligence analysis including hand calculations and computational models in a rapidly changing environment

  • Analyze, track and report key performance metrics contextualized against vehicle requirements

  • Lead design reviews internally and participate in reviews with suppliers and customers

  • Be responsible for the delivery timeline from design through production, launch, and in-flight operations

  • Exemplify technical excellence and be accountable for your own work

  • Review flight data to assess health solar array hardware on-orbit and inform future engineering efforts

  • Establish requirements for the solar energy collection system

  • Work with suppliers for solar energy collection system procurement with support from Supply Chain

  • Support solar energy collection system architecture trade studies, analyses, performance characterization and specifications, component selection, and solar energy collection roadmap direction

  • Provide solar array subject matter expertise on the design, manufacturing, and operations of the arrays

  • Research and communicate the current and trending advancements of solar energy collection systems

  • Support risk analyses, failure modes effects and criticality analyses (FMECA), design for test/manufacture/cost (DFx), and root-cause analysis of test discrepancies.

  • Effectively communicate development status, risks, and challenges to management

  • Write cogent and succinct technical memos and devise innovative, intuitive, and creative ways to visualize quantitative information

Qualifications:
