As a Launcher Production Supervisor at Astra, you will have the opportunity to gain a vast understanding of the Launcher and (GSE) build process and thereby, the Rocket launch process.

This role has a broad scope which will allow you to develop new skills and knowledge throughout your day-to-day tasks. As a Production Supervisor, you will be a working manager, where you will perform both build tasks and team supervision. Your workday will be fast-paced and filled with various build coordination tasks requiring you to be adaptive and ready to learn. You will lead a core group of production technicians, set work load priorities, monitor results, and report progress to senior management. This will require working closely with the team and being able to communicate ideas and information fearlessly to ensure a quality product is produced.

You will be responsible for coordinating the build and test of GSE produced by your team.

You will be responsible for growing and training the Launcher Production team, maintaining stock of floor consumables, and managing any quality issue tickets.

How You'll Fulfill Your Mission

  • Lead a team of highly skilled technicians by setting workloads, coordinating resources across Production Supervisors, maintaining Work Instructions, and managing Quality Issue Tickets
  • Execute production build schedule efficiently while emphasizing attention to detail. Maintain flexibility and allocate technician tasks to most efficiently complete build tasks.
  • Document best practices in Astra’s standard procedures and provide feedback for all drawings and work instructions.
  • Communicate status of tasks with the team frequently in order to highlight blockers or issues affecting scheduled delivery dates.
  • Troubleshoot build blockers and recruit support from other departments to help resolve issues blocking production.


  • You have 5+ years’ experience in aerospace, automotive, fabrication, or manufacturing industry environments
  • You have 1+ years’ experience leading teams and managing the workflow of direct reports
  • Experience with conducting performance reviews for team members and providing regular feedback through 1:1’s
  • Experience recruiting and developing training materials for new team members
  • You are familiar with using electric and pneumatic power tools, manual machinery, and sheet metal forming equipment (rollers, press brake, punches)
  • You are familiar in sheet metal fabrication techniques (match drilling, hole inspection, de-burring, riveting)
  • Navigate through several core computer programs (web-based work instructions, documentation, CAD)
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, provide meaningful feedback

Desired Multipliers

  • Familiarity with dimensional inspection and measuring equipment
  • Experience working in the space tech industry
  • Highly proficient and knowledgeable about rocket launches; specifically with Ground Support Equipment (GSE), which form a system instrumental in the launch of the rocket. Major systems include the Launcher, launch site Fuel and LOX systems, Checkout Carts, as well as various other GSE elements

ITAR Requirements: This position requires compliance with U.S. Government space technology  trade restrictions, specifically the International Trafficking in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and additional regulations governing satellite, launch vehicle, missile, and other related technologies.  All jobs restricted by these regulations will be contingent upon the applicant’s status as a documented U.S. Person or their ability to receive a trade license from the cognizant government agency; in addition to any required company background checks and in compliance with applicable U.S. and California laws.  Similarly, positions requiring the ability to work on government contracts or a security clearance are also contingent upon the applicants ability to receive the appropriate clearance and be allowed to work on U.S. government contracts.
