Senior Mechanical Automation Engineer

How You’ll Fulfill Your Mission  

  • Conceptualize, design, and support custom automated manufacturing equipment used to scale the production of rockets including: robot work cells, end effectors, X/Y gantries, spray applications, metal forming, material handling, motorized mechanism design, etc.
  • Model, document, and drive piece part fabrication for custom equipment components
  • Select and source OTS components to contribute to your equipment designs
  • Rapid prototype, implement, and troubleshoot various rocket production improvement projects
  • Develop, collaborate, and evaluate 3rd party manufacturing equipment designs
  • Generate technical documents such as engineering design specifications, BOMs, test results, technical procedures, etc.


  • BS or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar
  • 2+ years of applicable industry experience
  • Mechanical engineering design, modeling, and drafting experience
  • Automated manufacturing equipment development and design experience
  • Experience with motion control design and implementation using motors, pneumatics, and/or hydraulics
  • Experience with engineering design analysis techniques including FEA, RMS & RSS tolerance studies, etc.
  • Ability to read and draft ASME Y14.5 GD&T drawing standards
  • Working knowledge of DFM and DFA techniques
  • Ability to lead engineering projects, drive cross-functional meetings, present and defend design decisions

  • Welding experience
  • Manufacturing experience
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification
  • Scrum project management

ITAR Requirements: This position requires compliance with U.S. Government space technology  trade restrictions, specifically the International Trafficking in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and additional regulations governing satellite, launch vehicle, missile, and other related technologies.  All jobs restricted by these regulations will be contingent upon the applicant’s status as a documented U.S. Person or their ability to receive a trade license from the cognizant government agency; in addition to any required company background checks and in compliance with applicable U.S. and California laws.  Similarly, positions requiring the ability to work on government contracts or a security clearance are also contingent upon the applicants ability to receive the appropriate clearance and be allowed to work on U.S. government contracts.
