About the role
Rocket Lab seeks a Junior Systems Engineer to help develop Neutron: Rocket Lab’s medium lift, reusable launch vehicle capable of human spaceflight.

Launch your career with one of the most exciting graduate opportunities in New Zealand! We are looking for a recent graduate interested in gaining industry experience in Systems Engineering.

Systems Engineers are great communicators who excel in interdisciplinary collaboration: working across teams to structure and execute design trades; define clear, verifiable requirements; and support the delivery of products that exceed these requirements through test, integration, and launch.

Essential skills

  • An undergraduate degree in Engineering or similar field
  • 0-2 years industry experience, ideally from the Aerospace, Automotive or Marine industries
  • Capable of being self-managed and committed to working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Hands-on experience through engineering project teams, lab research, or through a prior relevant internship or work experience.
  • Proven communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues and engineering professionals
  • Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Highly organized. Sees the bigger picture but pays attention to the detail

Desirable skills

  • Experience in modern systems engineering practices and tools
  • Strong understanding of fundamental physical principles (i.e. heat transfer, electronics, mechanics of materials etc.)
  • Experience within one/some of the following fields (Mechanical, Propulsion, Avionics, Software, GNC, Operations, Testing)
  • Growth mindset. Strong desire for continuous learning

As well as a being a career-defining role, working at Rocket Lab means being part of meaningful projects with world-leading experts.

Collaboration is at our core - every idea is heard, and everyone makes a difference.

We get things done. Our team is nimble, decisions are made quickly, and we are action oriented. While other companies talk about it, we do it. This means projects get the green light faster and ideas are put into practice rapidly.

Everyone works on the big stuff. This isn’t a huge aerospace company where you get lost in bureaucracy and end up a tiny cog in a giant machine. At Rocket Lab, your work directly impacts the success of each mission. Everyone’s voice is heard, and everyone can contribute major projects. This is your chance to play a pivotal role in developing space systems that change the way we access space.
