Kepler is on a Mission to bring the internet to space. Incorporated in 2015, Kepler’s guiding star is to enable the space economy through the creation of a communication network in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) that will provide connectivity services to other space missions, be they on orbit in LEO, MEO, GEO, or beyond. You can’t run a successful space company without diligent bookkeeping and a resourceful Finance Team. To that end we are looking for a top-tier Senior Accountant who has a solid understanding of accounting under ASPE, best practices and a keen desire to apply that in the development of the Accounting function at a fast-growing, well-funded company.
A Senior Accountant at Kepler is not the typical accounting role in that responsibilities can span across multiple areas. This includes, financial reporting, tax, internal controls, process optimization, treasury management, operational support and other ad hoc projects.
The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience post-designation, ideally in a fast-moving startup environment. The ability to contribute and communicate in an entrepreneurial environment with visibility and interaction with the top team and senior leadership across the company. Lead the timely close of month/quarter/year-end accounting process and actively implement or maintain internal controls including JE review, AR, AP
Develop and prepare financial statements and related supporting schedules and memos
Research and assess accounting impact of transactions under ASPE
Support year end audits and corporate tax filings.
Ensure compliance with local, provincial, federal and US reporting requirements (payroll tax, HST, annual filings)
Work with external advisors to determine appropriate transfer pricing and other tax strategies and prepare the appropriate supporting documents to support
Create repeatable finance processes and maintain process documents.
Contribute to ERP system implementation.
Maintain data integrity of financial information through monitoring transactions and reconciliation work
Prepare board reporting and variance analysis
Work closely with various stakeholders and functions to provide ad hoc analysis and reports. Work with bookkeeper and mentor junior staff.
Contribute to a team effort and undertake other special projects on an as needed basis - such as applications for grants/contract bids, expansions, treasury management
