Maxar is currently seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineering Manager to join our team in Palo Alto, CA. In this role, you lead a team of mechanical engineers and computer-aided design (CAD) engineers responsible for the design, analysis, and qualification of spacecraft electronic and RF components

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing and maintaining performance, training, and career path development activities for assigned personnel

  • Leading the recruiting, interviewing and hiring processes for the organization

  • Ensure processes, models, and templates are developed and maintained for staffing, costing, and schedule definition for unit development and maintenance

  • Ensure standards for key product development processes are defined for engineering, design, analysis and testing.  Ensure these standard processes are uniformly adhered to and followed.

  • Train engineers in product design heritage, methodology, and test philosophies

  • Ensure all component hardware challenges are resolved in a timely, cost effective and technically acceptable manner to meet performance and mission assurance standards and objectives.

  • Ensure designs include a balanced approach to optimize performance, assembly, integration, and unit-level test.

  • Ensure technical risks and opportunities are identified, appropriate risk mitigation plans and action plans are put in place, and risks are retired to meet programmatic timelines.

  • Works effectively with internal, and when necessary external, customers to understand product needs.

  • Ensure processes and practices are defined consistent with the organization being a ‘learning organization’.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and be willing and able to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field.

  • 15+ years of engineering experience. A Master's degree may count for 2 years experience.

  • Experience managing or leading teams

  • 6+ years of development (design, build, manufacture, test, launch, or operations) experience in one or more spacecraft mission components or subsystems, or equivalent

  • Demonstrated ability to delegate while remaining accountable for outcomes

  • Adapt fluidly to new information, changing constraints, new requirements, and personnel assignments

  • Working familiarity with applicable aerospace industry standards and best practices (Mil, NASA, ESA, AIAA, ASME, etc.)

  • Working familiarity of trade study processes that optimize technical performance, mass, power, thermal, cost, schedule, and risks to meet product need

  • Able to communicate effectively with internal and external customers, key suppliers and team members in both oral and written form

  • Effective presentation skills

  • Willingness to travel on occasion as needed
